Any experience with VoIP in Canada, other than Vonage? I'm thinking of switching from Bell residential service to VoIP but I'm not impressed with Vonage's rates in Canada: $39.99 vs $24.99 in the US. Has anyone had any experience with Sunrise, ZingoTel, VoiceStick, VoicePulse, Rogers, or any other VoIP service in Canada? Not calling Canada from the US, but VoIP calling FROM Canada. Any issues? Did you need a US address and credit card in order to get the equipment? What about support and fax? I've read that VoIP can be problematic for faxing.
How soon will Canada be free of traditional phone lines? Services like Vonage are making traditional phone services a thing of the past. When will high-speed wide-area wireless Internet render traditional phone service (with land lines) a thing of the past?

anybody using vonage? i get charged weird taxes and have other questions............? when i am given my monthly bill, i have this new jersey tax listed and its really expensive. i don't even live in new jersey, i live in oklahoma, and the area code i got is an oklahoma area code, not new jersey. so why am i being taxed this? also, i'm using the 500 minute plan. so if i call 1-800 numbers does that cut off my minutes? also i call a lot of international numbers (outside the US entirely) and i know that i am charged seperately for that, but the minutes i'm using to call international numbers, is that cutting off my 500 mins? or is that a seperate thing? basically i'm asking that my 500 minutes, is it for 500 mins of general phone use, or 500 mins for calling within the US and canada?

Is there a calling plan for cell phones that allows free calls internationaly? I have a good friend in Canada and I would like to call her cell phone from my own using one of those "fav 5" plans or something like that. I already have Vonage just for that but I would like to be able to talk to her while I am out as well and Vonage cell phones only work when you are near a WIFI signal. Is calling from the USA to Canada going to disqualify me from using one of those plans to call her for free? If it is possible, what phone company and plan can I use?

How does one become an INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER (ISP) within America or Canada? Basically, I have this curiousness about the internet and it is regarding ISP. Firstly, since there are so much major internet companies out there, I wondering if it is possible to start my internet company and compete with major internet companies such as Rogers, Bell Sympatico, and Vonage! Secondly, how does one buy a "backbone" or a connection to the webserver to establish a connection for the public through my ISP. Please do not consider this as a joke because I am looking for a reasonable answer; therefore, I am seriously looking for a very detailed answer that relates to this situation! Thank you.
Getting a proxy IP address to skirt anti-gambling US Laws? I am trying to bet with my old sports book. If I were to use vonage and get a canadian ISP account, and dial into the ISP (using Vonage) would I have a Canadian IP address that the sports book, who doesn't let you bet with an American IP addy, be tricked into thinking I was logging in from Canada? Any ideas on how to make bets from the US with sportsbooks that don't allow us in? Proxy IP addresses? How do we get them?

This is not a question its advice!!!!!? Watch out for loan companies called Belcrest Lending Services and Citiline Fininical. They are connected in some way and dont even exsist here the US. They approve you of a fake loan fax you legal documents to sign and then want you to send money to Canada. You will never see you money and if you research these companies through search sites and better business bureau and also check there business license. They dont exsist and have ripped off many people only in the US that I know of. I never got ripped off thanks to research and others posted complaints in different sites. So to the people that take the time to write about what happened it sucks that you got ripped off but your helping others!! Thanks and if anyone wants any information email me at kimberlymurray1@yahoo.com I have proof that the company Belcrest is located somewhere in Canada, I got them to call me back acting like I was going to send money, when he called back I saw my vonage online record and it was Canada! Advice: Search online Better Business Bureau Busines License Get info out of the company, like if they make you send money to Canada!! BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!! you dont need to email me I only put that there because some people want more information than I wrote . So if you dont want to dis regard that part. Oh, and you are all welcome everyonr deserves to know this.
Wifi phones? I have a UTstarcom f1000 that a successfully used in Canada and the states when subscribing to Vonage. I no longer use vonage but have another trip planned, is there a way I can still use this phone or is it locked into vonage?
Best Voip in UK (Buying it from UK or US)? I'm currently in the US, and going to the UK. I'm looking for a Voip service which can call the US and the UK for free, in addition to other cheap international (Lebanon, Kuwait) calls. I can buy the Voip service from the UK or from the US. Currently, I'm thinking of buying the Vonage service from the US. You can call through it any land line inside the UK for free but not cell phones. You can also call the US and Canada and other countries for free. I think it's the best deal till now. Could anyone please help me find out if there's a better deal for the UK. Thanks a lot in advance!
Looking for a Canadian VoIP company that supports t.38 protocol? Hi all, Currently have a business account with Vonage. A main line and a fax line for about $60 CAD. However because Vonage does not and has no plans to support t.38, I am having problems with fax. I need a company that is available in Canada that supports t.38. Preferably one that supports BYOD, I am tired of this locked devices. Basically: -need t38 -BYOD (preffered) -main line (North America plan (1000 mins or more) / fax line -pref around $70 CAD ideas??? Asking too much?? Thanks danuitti, I did run into: http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/VOIP+Service+Providers+T.38 and confirmed Iristel supports T.38. However they do not have a Fax line along with their regular package. I will have to sign up for 2 accounts that would make it expensive. However about your fax problem may not be fixed simply by T.38 being supported. You will have to use t38modem in order to take advantage.
