Voip Comparison

Does Broadband Talk enable me to call other VOIP phones?

I have recently connected via the BT Broadband home hub and received the dedicated phone. I can call all my usual contacts but am unable to phone other VOIP phones. I called the BT Helpline but, quite honestly, they seem to know nothing at all about Broadband talk (didn't even know what I meant by VOIP or SKYPE). Can anyone tell me whether I can or cannot call other internet phones (if so, what am i doing wrong?) Thanks Hi and many thanks for all the help. Unfortunately, I'm still a little confused - the general opinion seems to be that I should be able to call VOIP (assuming the person I'm trying to call has a "number" that I can dial) - am I correct so far? But how is that different to "PC based VOIP" that I can't call? Sorry to be dumb but before I go back to the mind-numbing process of calling the BT helpline, I need to be sure of my understanding. Thanks again

  1. you can call anyone in the world...cells, landlines, SIP and VoIP.....call them again and tell them you wanna talk to a tech 3 or else!!! I just took a look at there website....here is a good website to get the best info.... http://www.dslreports.com/ ask one of the best guys...
  2. Ok. I'll try to make this easy... with a VOIP phone, going through either your computer, or direct to your router, you can call: Land lines anywhere in the world, Mobile phones anywhere in the world, And other VOIP users anywhere in the world. To call a landline, or mobile phone will most likely cost you, although it will be much cheaper than using BT for example. I bought £5.00 on Skype and still have over £3.00 left, and I use it quite regularly. But to call another VOIP user, it is FREE baby! You can use a number of different pakages to utilise VOIP, the bet is Skype - it's free, and was the first, and most developed - you can now video conference which is way cool! If your computer has a speaker and microphone, and broadband, you can VOIP. You don't have to buy expensive kit, but it's always nice! I hope this helps!
  3. yeah u can call anyone through bb talk its alot cheaper to make international calls through voip are you sure that u are dialling the correct number?
  4. BT Broadband Talk will allow you to phone any phone which has a fixed number. You can call any other BT Talk customer with 056 numbers free in the evening or weekend (also normal 01, 02 numbers), unless you have chosen to have the Anytime option which would mean you can phone any landline or 056 number free all day. You cannot call a PC based VOIP service as the technology does not allow it. It would be the same as picking up your normal telephone and trying to call a computer, it cannot be done.
