Can you use reverse phone number lookup on VOIP phones?

I have a VoIP phone service at home, and I thought somebody had told me that if you do a reverse phone number lookup on a phone number provided by a VoIP company, it can only be traced back to the VoIP company, not to the individual customer. Is this true?

1. yes, that is true!!!...VoIP are not listed!!! unless you had ported your landline phone number....! no...you cant tell if its a VoIP number....
