any problems with voip phones?

- There can be a delay and signal break-up. Someone with voip used to call me... My phone rings, answer it - silence, put phone down...phone rings, answer it - silence... It seems that the delay in getting the voice through was long enough for me to interpret as a fault or automated dialling problem (sales). Voip was the culprit. I've also heard of this problem in a commercial setting with a company trying to cut costs, but ending up losing customers because of the poor voip phone line.
- The only problem I found was that I had horrible call quality when I was downloading files, or streaming high quality music from places like Shoutcast. I upgraded my router/dsl modem, because the new one has QoS (Quality of Service) settings. By tweaking those, you can be assured that particular apps do not hog the bandwidth so that others suffer. Now I can download or listen to internet radio, while others in the house can surf/email/voip phone, without any degradation in service. Food for thought :)
- VOIP - Issues: 1, Your Internet service is key, congestion or bandwidth issues will degrade the service. I have a problem with mine when the local school kids get home and all log onto the Internet. Just don't try to call me between 3:00 and 3:30 pm. 2, You service provider may under provision the service resulting in 'all lines are temporarily busy, try again later' This is a particular issue with vonage.
