Voip Comparison

I have bought a couple of VOIP phones but...?

how do I now get to use them? Do I have to get/buy a number (or even 2) to enable me to use them to talk to each other. If not what do I need to do next?

  1. You need to get hooked up with Vonage. Are they phone's that connect wirelessly to your network? That's what I have and my network is encrypted so I had to put the ecryption key into the phone to get it to connect to the internet.
  2. www.skype.com is a good place to start!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Hello, (ANS) OK!! lets just get clear about a couple of points here! VOIP (voice over internet protocol) is a protocol that is used to send data packets across the internet. Normal IP data packets just send data in the form of text say but VIOP packets contain sound or audio. Thats the first thing to appreciate. **For anyone to use VOIP (free internet phone calls) you need the following things: a) A computer that is capable of running the VOIP software and hardware that fits your system. b) Handset or headset with a microphone. c) VOIP software to install & run on your computer, such as Skype for example. (also called a soft phone). d) Your internet service providor needs to allow for or support VOIP services (note: not all ISP's do though). You might need to check with your ISP support people to ensure you can use VOIP with them. e) Provided you have ALL of the above setup & in place and working, your service such as skype will require you to setup an account and its the acount that gives you a phone number and other people will need to know this number or contact information before they can phone you. The service is just like a normal BT phone system but the setup is obviously a little more complex and your phone calls are routed (travel) across in internet NOT along a normal BT pathway. The end result is free phone calls to other people using the same (exactly the same though) system as you. **for example skype calls made to other skype users is normally 100% free but calls made to other non skype users might incurr a small cost? Hope that helps? Best Regards IR
