  1. I would highly suggest a course from Jones/NCTI. These are self paced courses for the cable industry but they are top notch. Not only will you learn how it works, but also how to install and repair it. They are a bit pricey; hopefully, you can get your company to pay for it. I hope this helps!
  2. Here are the facts that I know. I have installed SKYPE on other people's computers, so they can talk VOIP for free. In one case, they installed it, so they could talk to their son in Beijing, who was going to school for one year. I have Vonage. I have had great luck with VOIP as a primary telephone service. I have found it simple to bring my VOIP adapter with me on vacation. While in Hong Kong for a convention, I shared my free connection to and USA/Canada attendees, so we made 80 calls per day for free from that location. There were no bandwidth problems or voice delays in transmission. Again, this year, I attended a convention in Boston. We shared our VOIP service to people in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, several small countries in Africa and a number of European countries. We did have problems with making a connection in Nigeria. Apparently, the service is not available there. We did have some troubles with a limited number of calling circuits in India and Sri Lanka, but once connected, it worked just great. In general, I remind people that use VOIP to set up their 911 Emergency calling properly. I also suggest to people that need their service during emergency conditions, that they put their High Speed Internet modem and VOIP adapter on a UPS, so service is not interrupted. My own service is on a UPS, and it keeps the service working through blackouts without any trouble. Training program? Plug it in like any other network device, and it WORKS.
  3. try trixbox, asterisk, digium for a low budget kit you can have now.
  4. Did you take CCNA at a Cisco training centre? Cisco do a VOIP course so you should enquire there. Once you've been trained by Cisco you really shouldn't try anyone else, they really don't compare.
