- well, I've heard that some providers, like cox and comcast leave there ports closed so you cant use other phone providers....because they have there own digital phone, so you gotta ask them about it! I had the same problem with my provider! I had to do alot of talking and begging! Deal only with an supervisor of Cox....that did it for me!!
- if the modem has the ports for a phone then yes it shouldn't be a problem if they are blocked then you have to get with your cable company
- Your Internet speed is sufficient to use "any" VoIP service of your choice. Vonage is just one of many to choose from. If you are concerned about Cox blocking your use of other VoIP services, then I suggest you can do some testing first to validate if VoIP will work over your Internet connection. Following, are some VoIP services you can test using free softphones from your PC. If you have any friends or family that use a PC too, then have them (and you ) install any of the following free softphones for Free PC-PC calling: GoogleTalk Skype Yahoo Messenger Gizmo Project (Now Gizmo5) MediaRing Talk Make test calls to each other PC-PC and see how that works... You will need a PC mic and speakers, but a headset with built-in mic is preferred. Test PC-Phone calling for FREE with the following services: MediaRing Talk - (free 10 minute calls) http://www.mediaringtalk.com EarthCaller - (all calls free in USA/Canada, while in beta dev stage) http://www.earthcaller.com If the above services work from your PC, then chances are Vonage will too....
- Yeah, Vonage works with any high speed conection. Also, it's really cheap.
