Voip Comparison

How is the quality of Vonage phone service?

I'm thinking about switching to Vonage for my home phone service? I've read that the quality of the sound isn't all that good. But I've also read that it is on par with regular copper wire phone service? Any personal experience with Vonage you could share would be appreciated. I'd rather hear it from the consumers themselves.

  1. We have it and if you are not near the base, say within 20 feet, the sound breaks up as static. I have the highest GHz phone money can buy and I have 5 phones in the house to avoid this proble. Other than that, it is saving me about $300 a month on long distance calls. ( Home Business)
  2. It works fine in terms of voice quality however there are instances when the service stops due to internet connection and then you got to trouble shoot and all. I think that wud be the case with any VOIP. I will say go with it.
  3. I called them to sign up, but the line dropped twice. I called a third time to tell them that before I would sign up with a phone provider, they had better have a stable line themselves. Maybe I was too hasty, but a reliable phone line could save your life one day. (especially in a natural disaster) As a secondary line, maybe it would be OK, but as my only line....It'll take more than dollar savings to prove it's worth.
  4. Sorry, I am not a consumer myself but I would just like to say something. In my opinion, I think that the voice quality from the voice data traveling over the internet would not be really good because they have to go far distances and as they go they lose their quality. Personally, I would not switch to Vonage because it can be easily failed. What I mean is this: I do not see anything exciting in being able to check your voicemail over the internet. It is okay but still, you might as well go to your phone and check it rather than turning on your computer, connecting to the internet and then checking your voice mail. You see a lot of hassle to it. Second, the satellite could fail and that means the service is gone and a lot of other things. Last but not the least, I am satisfied with my phone service. As far as I can talk to people and get the features I subscribed for I am okay unless I want more which is probably why you are asking this question then you could subscribe. I hope you are not offended but it is just my opinion. Thanks.
  5. Hi. I have used my Vonage phone extensively for over a month now. I've used it to test call myself on my regular land line phone, and I've used it to call people in small towns in rural areas, and for many other calls within the US and internationally. There has only been one occasion when the line quality was not excellent, and it was hard to know if that was a Vonage problem or a fault with the regular phone service that Vonage was feeding its call through to reach the final person I was calling. In all other cases, voice quality has been excellent, and at least as good as with normal phone service. There has been no appreciable increase in delays on the line, and no annoying echo, line noise, or other problems with the line quality. I hope this helps! --Stacey
  6. no real problems, except every now and then a voice packet drops, resulting in the loss of half a word or so. No biggie - and at that price its worth it.
  7. the service is as good as your internet connection. i have it and had treeible problems with gargling audio till my isp put in a bigger backbone. have had no problems since. has great features too, like if the net goes down, it automaticaly forwards all call to my cell untill service is back on. i dont have to worry about long distance either. just be sure you have 911 dialing set up properly.
